I just don't get the whole "angry liberal" thing. They speak about peace and love, yet spew such hatred towards anyone that thinks differently than they do. They complain about conservatives being intolerant, yet they fail to look at themselves in the mirror.
I have plenty of friends and family that voted for Obama and even consider themselves moderate liberals...but the far left which seems to be running the Democratic party these days seems to be so filled with hate for anyone that disagrees they've blinded themselves to what really matters and fail to show the love, peace and brotherhood that they will tell you they believe in.
Of course, any "angry liberal" reading this now will be dismiss me at a minimum as an intolerant conservative...but that's ok, because I'm a really just a "Happy Conservative!"

Your posts are like cat nip - I just can't resist clawing at them.
DISCLAIMER: We will most likely be on the opposite side of almost every issues, but let's agree to not let this undermine our frendship. Besides when I get stuck with .Net you are my go-to guy.
Imagine that Obama turns out to be your worst liberal nightmare. Not only that but he gets re-elected in 2012. You have to live with him until '16. Would you be cranky? That is how GWB feels to our side.
Obama found that he would get no where as the "angry black man" His cool demeanor has paid off. Hopefully this will spread to any "angry liberals" left out there.
What about the people at the McCain campain who started bringing their torches and lynching ropes? Any anger over there? John finally had to call off the dogs when it started getting ugly. If it was Palin standing there she would have probably egged them on.
Liberals do not have a exclusive take on anger by any streach of the imaginaiton.
I agree, let's keep our friendship in the forefront...I have no doubt we can do that. Eric and I disagree on a lot of issues also, but hey, we still work together almost every day!
Don't get me wrong, sure there are some angry people on both sides. And I have not doubt that there will be plenty of angry conservatives in fours years or more if he gets re-elected.
But except for the extremes on both sides which will always be there no matter what, what I don't understand is that I see so many liberal minded people, that are otherwise average Joe's, be so angry almost to the point of not being able to function or be rational. I do NOT include you in that group at all. But so many have been overcome with anger with President Bush, that they stopped thinking rationally.
Yes there will be the same on the conservative side, but from what I see, liberals tend to be more vocal so they come across as much more angry. This post was really aimed at an acquaintance of mine that is very liberal yet contradicts him/her self with almost every sentence. (No I won't reveal who it is...it's no one I work with, and probably no one that will even read this blog post, though they might now)
Let me speak for myself for a moment. What I've told everyone is, while yes I'm disappointed that Obama won I'm willing to give him 4 years to prove me wrong. He is my president and I will defend him and pray for him as any American should with any president (yes even George W Bush). Now in 4 years if he has moved this country so far to the left, if he and congress take my property rights away, or tries to take my guns, or tries to tax me to death as a small business owner (not saying he will do any of those things - in fact I'm working on a post that will tell how I see an Obama presidency playing out, and it's not as dire as some on the right may predict) then sure I'll fight hard to see him NOT re-elected...but I'm willing to give him a chance.
George Bush never had that luxury. He was never given a chance...you can say all you want about what he's done wrong over the last 8 years and I'd be right with you on most of those. But the election wasn't even over yet and Bush was considered a failed president by the media and the left. And they have never gotten over that.
You are right, people on both sides are at fault, you had the extremes on the right bringing torches and ropes, but you also had people with effigies of Palin hanging from a rope. Liberals in general, and the person whom this post was directed, are just so much more in your face about it.
Catnip is good, please keep clawing, this kind of discourse is what this country needs.
"George Bush ...was never given a chance......Bush was considered a failed president by the media and the left..."
Liberals and the media?
Where was George at the Republican National Convention? McCain did not seem eager to show loyalty by defending the President's policies?
How was Bush not given a chance? He started out with majority in Congress and the Senate. The country was completely behind him in the aftermath 9/11 as was the rest of the world. He even got a do-over in 2004. I thought conservatives believed in personal responsibility. Do you think the president should accept any of the blame for the current mess?
Ray, I don't think I ever said that president shouldn't carry a portion of the blame. In fact, I think he and the republican congress needs to shoulder blame (as well as the dems in power at the time as well). The people were behind him, sort of....because we as Americans do tend to come together in a time of crisis....but if you look back, the media and the left hated him before, during and after the election. There is no mistaking it. I remember well the campaign between Al Gore and Bush...most of the media was not behind him then nor any other time during his presidency.
McCain of course couldn't parade Bush out during the campaign, it wasn't politically prudent. Just like Obama needed to distance himself from Jeremiah Wright and others. Any smart politician would do the same.
Personal responsibility, absolutely...I nor most conservatives I know believe that Bush is completely innocent..but the left has avoided shouldering any of the blame either... just listen to Pelosi and Reid sometime.
BTW: Ray I got to say this is fun and some of the better discussions I've had over the last few months...best to always discuss things amongst friends I suppose.
Well OK, but my point was with your statement that Bush never had a chance. He had several years of chances. Eventually the nation figured that he was not making the right calls and turned against him. As far as I'm concerned he deserves his sub-Nixon rating.
As far as a liberal media bias, I'm not convinced. I can listen to Sean Hannity, Mike Savage, Michael Medved, Rush, Chizek, Golick, Ericson all day on the local radio. We had a liberal station for a couple years then it went broke at least according to management. Now if I want to hear the other side I have to tune in on the web. TV has both sides, FOX vs MSNBC, but the radio belongs to the conservatives.
Yep radio does belong to conservatives and TV has Fox, though I tend to see that as more of a more center right, though the TV is overwhelmed with leftest media. CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS, MSNBC and perhaps I missed some.
You're right he had 8 years to correct any poor perceptions that may have arisen and he failed to do so ... but I guess what I mean and perhaps I'm not stating it well, is that the preconceptions that people had of Bush before he even came into office made it near impossible for him to overcome those. I don't believe he could have done anything to get most any liberal to like him. That's what I mean by not having a chance, it wouldn't have mattered what he did, the perception from before the election just overwhelmed anything he might have done (I'll grant you he made things worse for sure).
I'm sure I can't convince you that there is a media biased, but it seems pretty obvious to me. Yes conservatives have radio, but unfortunately, far more people get their news from TV than the do radio. During this latest campaign when most of the TV anchors were practically creaming themselves over Obama it was crazy. But I'm sure we'll hear talk of the so-called "Fairness Doctrine" which will try to stifle any free speech and probably remove the one place that Conservatives have.
Anyway, it's time to move on. Bush is on his way out, Obama on his way in. We'll see how this all plays out. For better or for worse all we can do is get up, work hard and provide for our families..in that at least I'm sure we can agree.
Now on to my next post. :-)
